An 18-year-old man was charged with criminal homicide in connection to a traffic accident on Alcoa Highway that killed a motorcyclist this morning.

Alcoa Police Sgt. Hank Morris said a warrant was filed charging Christopher Lashonn Crider, who has addresses in Knoxville and Alcoa, with criminal homicide at about 3 p.m. today.

Blount County Sheriff's deputies also filed warrants charging Crider with two counts of felony reckless endangerment. He was being held in lieu of bonds totaling $850,000 pending a 1:30 p.m. Thursday hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court.

According to Morris, the motorcycle driver "Stephen L. Adams, 49, West Edison Street, Alcoa " was traveling northbound on Alcoa Highway at about 9 a.m. when a Ford Explorer, driven by Crider, turned from Lakemont Drive into the northbound lane headed southbound.

Authorities alleged Crider was fleeing the Green Acres Flea Market after stealing a radio. According to Alcoa Police Capt. Rick Arnold, a group of citizens at the flea market tried to stop Crider as he sped through the parking lot, but had to jump out of the way as the man drove through.

After turning southbound onto northbound Alcoa Highway, Crider allegedly hit Adams, who was driving a Honda Gold Wing, and fled on foot after the impact.

The incident happened so fast that the motorcycle driver could not have avoided the impact, Arnold said.

"He had no chance," he said.

Adams was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Arnold, the group of citizens from the flea market pursued Crider on foot after the accident, and surrounded him at a nearby gas station. Alcoa Police Lt. Jim Miller responded to the scene and took Crider into custody.

Blount County Sheriff's deputies are currently investigating the alleged theft at Green Acres Flea Market, as well the possible reckless endangerment caused when Crider fled the business.

The Explorer Crider was driving was reported stolen out of Knoxville, Arnold said.

Authorities expect Crider to face additional charges from the Blount County Sheriff's Office and Alcoa Police Department.
