A man will be arraigned today on drunken driving and other charges stemming from a head-on crash late Saturday near Worcester Police Headquarters that seriously injured a North Brookfield resident.

Marianne Carey, 54, was in critical condition last night in the intensive care unit at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus with injuries suffered in a two vehicle accident on Goldsberry Street.

The accident occurred about 11:45 p.m. Saturday, near the intersection of Goldsberry and Summer streets.

Sgt. John J. Fallavollita of the Worcester Police Traffic Division said Ms. Carey was traveling south on Goldsberry Street when her vehicle collided with another driven by Adson Soares DaSilva, 32, of 103 Tower St.

Sgt. Fallavollita said the auto accident occurred when Mr. DaSilva, who was heading north, crossed into the southbound lane.

Mr. DaSilva was also taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center for treatment and was arrested later at the hospital.

According to police, Mr. DaSilva was charged with driving a motor vehicle under the influence, driving a motor vehicle so as to endanger, causing serious bodily injury, failure to stay within marked lanes and driving a motor vehicle without a license.

Mr. DaSilva was held in custody last night in the Worcester police lockup on a default warrant (malicious mischief). He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Central District Court.

Ms. Carey had left work at AdCare Hospital and was headed home when the accident occurred, police said.
