Grand Prairie Accident Claims Arlington Teen

An Arlington man died today from injuries he sustained in a car accident on Friday night in Grand Prairie, police said.

Robert Joslin, 17, was stopped at Main and NW 23rd streets around 11 p.m. Friday when a driver in a GMC pickup struck his Chevrolet Malibu from behind, according to Grand Prairie police.  The collision forced Joslin’s car into the back of a Ford Expedition that was stopped in front of his car.

Joslin was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center and had been on life support until this afternoon.

His passenger, Sanford Lewis, 17, of Arlington, and two people in the Expedition sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the GMC pickup, Adrian Quezada, 20, of Arlington, was seriously injured and taken to Methodist for treatment.

Police say alcohol and speed were the primary causes for the wreck.  Quezada was arrested on a warrant for intoxication assault when he was released from the hospital today and is currently being held in a Grand Prairie Jail.

Quezada’s charges will be raised to intoxicated manslaughter if blood alcohol results come back positive, police said.

The collision is still under investigation.

Drunk Driver Charged with Intoxication Manslaughter

A local man was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle following a crash that left his passenger dead, according to a San Angelo police news release.

Chrystal Johnson, 36, of San Angelo was killed and White was injured when the truck he was driving crashed into two parked pickup trucks in the 600 block of South Chadbourne Street about 10:36 p.m. Sunday, according to the news release.

Johnson was taken to Shannon Medical Center where she was pronounced dead by Tom Green County Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard, according to the news release. She was the passenger.

White was also treated for undisclosed injuries at Shannon, according to the release.

The pair’s Ford Ranger was traveling north in the southbound lane of South Chadbourne Street when it went into a broad slide, crossing the east edge of the road, according to the news release. The truck then hit an unoccupied Chevrolet pickup truck parked in a parking lot. It then hit a second truck that was parked and unoccupied.

The truck White was driving came to rest on its left side, according to the news release.

Howard ordered that Johnson’s body to be taken to Fort Worth for an autopsy.

Manslaughter is a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

This is a breaking news story. More developments will be reported as information becomes available.

Southlake 18 Wheeler Crash Texas 114

Southlake, Texas police reopened eastbound Texas 114 after an 18-wheeler crashed on the highway.

The accident was reported shortly before 1:30 p.m. Monday on the highway between White Chapel Boulevard and Carroll Avenue.

Details of the accident were not available, but the 18-wheeler had been laying on its side, police said.

Because of that, police had to close two eastbound lanes for almost two hours before emergency crews managed to move the rig off the highway.

But police said that the Carroll Avenue off-ramp on the eastbound lanes will be closed for several hours as crews work to tow the 18-wheeler away.

5th Street Shooting Hits Bystander

A person in Austin, Texas as shot in the leg around 4am after a fight broke out between 2 men on 5th street.

“No one took it seriously at all. I don’t think people even realized it was someone getting shot,” said Kristal Winston, a witness of shooting.

Three friends were out for a Saturday night in the Warehouse District when they heard and saw something they’ll never forget.

“And all of a sudden I heard a loud pop,” Winston said.

“The guy, he initially shot and it seemed like it kept clicking but he must have run out of bullets or it must have been jammed,” said C.J. Chidok, who also saw the crime unravel.

“He was kind of, you know, shaking it; he was clicking and nothing was coming out,” Dean Butler, another witness, said.

The one shot was enough.

“I turned around and I saw someone stumbling or leaning over,” Winston said.

Winston, Chidok and Butler were in line at a sandwich shop when they herd the bang.

They turned around and saw the victim and suspect in front of Antro Night Club.

Police say it started when two people were arguing. One took out a gun and the other man started running. The gunman fired but missed his target, instead hitting an innocent bystander. That’s when the suspect realized his time was up.

“I seen him take off running and the Austin Police went after, chasing him,” Chidok said.

An off-duty officer heard the shot and went after the suspect on foot, according to police. They said he caught the gunman in a nearby parking garage.

This comes after an incident two weeks ago, just a block away near Roppolo’s Pizza. Several men are charged with felonies for severely beating a husband and wife. The husband had a broken leg, ankle and hand. His wife was beaten until she passed out.

That night, people tried to help, but this weekend, people didn’t even realize what was going on.

“No one even, no one scattered at all. It was the weirdest thing,” Winston said. “Nothing, nothing at all. It was like everyone just carried on with what they were doing, you know eating their pizza or trying to sober up. It was odd.”

That’s because the Warehouse District is usually a safe place at night.

“There’s always been fights, but nothing like that. Nothing that serious where it could have really really hurt somebody if it had not, you know, gone in to the guy’s leg, I guess,” Butler said.

Still serious, but everyone went home alive.

The suspect is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and more charges could be added later.

The victim’s injury was not life-threatening.
