Drunk Driving Texas Woman Accused

Published by admin under Uncategorized

A Bedford, Texas woman, Christina Steele, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after a man on a motorcycle was killed in an October wreck in Grapevine.

Christina Steele’s blood-alcohol level was nearly double the legal limit of 0.08 when she crashed into a guardrail of State Highway 121 near Glade Road the morning of Oct. 13, said Grapevine Lt. Todd Dearing.

Her Honda Civic did not have its lights on when it came to rest in the 5300 block of the highway, police said. Minutes later, as Steele stood outside her vehicle, Mark Askew, 27, of Justin, Texas crashed into her car, Dearing said.

Askew, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Steele was taken to Baylor Medical Center at Grapevine and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A toxicology test showed her blood alcohol level to be 0.14 at the time of the accident, police said.

Steele, 33, was arrested Friday and booked into the Grapevine city jail. She has since been released on $5,000 bond.

If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Houston Elevator Accident Two Hurt

Two people were hurt when an elevator car quickly fell two floors in the 717 Texas building in Houston.

“It went down like a rock,” said Allan Keel, one of two people in the elevator in the building at Texas and Milam. “It shook the elevator — a bunch of stuff came off the ceiling.”

Keel, president of Crimson Exploration, said he injured his back. Carleen Naumann, a Besco Tubular saleswoman who had a business appointment with Keel at Crimson Exploration’s offices in the building, said she fell down, injuring her ankle and back.

The incident happened about 2 p.m.

Keel and Naumann declined treatment from emergency medical technicians. Both said they were leery to get back on an elevator, but did enter another car - they didn’t want to walk down 25 floors.

“If we went down from 25, we would have been messed up,” Naumann said.

Speeding Cause of Accident in Texas

Published by admin under Accident News

Excessive speeding was likely the cause of a fiery collision that killed five people and injured two others, authorities said.

The driver of a Chevrolet Cobalt was driving on a state highway in Magnolia at “an extremely high rate of speed” when it collided with a Toyota van Saturday, authorities said.

“The driver of the van probably never saw it coming,” said Department of Public Safety Sgt. Angela Fountain.

Four of the five family members traveling in the van were killed. They were identified as: Donald Lee Sexton, 60, of College Station; Curtis Charles Edwards, 78, of Pinehurst; Catherine C. Edwards, 83; and Lloyd Alvin Edwards, 83, of Salina, Okla.

“This is devastating for this family,” Fountain said.

Another van passenger, 59-year-old Karla Kay Sexton of College Station, was in serious condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital-The Medical Center on Sunday afternoon, hospital spokeswoman Alejandra Rodriguez said.

Kayla Pratorius, 18, of Magnolia, was a front seat passenger in the Cobalt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Cobalt was 22-year-old Brandon Lee Ferguson of Magnolia. He was in critical condition Sunday afternoon at Memorial Hermann Hospital-The Medical Center, Rodriguez said.

Fountain said that the investigation is ongoing and they are trying to determine the Cobalt’s speed at the time of impact.
