Houston Personal Injury Lawyer

Published by admin under Personal Injury

Lots of Texas personal injury law firms promise the moon and the stars.  This is what I promise – I don’t have a huge staff, with all sorts of paralegals and junior lawyers, so when I take your case, that means that I’ll be working on it personally. You’ll be dealing with me.

There aren’t many Houston personal injury lawyers who can say that. There also aren’t many Houston personal injury lawyers who can say that they have actually worked for an insurance company.  I have.

With that experience, I know how insurance adjusters look at Houston accident cases. In fact, while working for the insurance company, I not only worked with the insurance adjusters, I actually helped train them.  I know what they look for in a Houston car wreck case, or a Houston slip and fall case, and I am now using that knowledge to help people who have been hurt in those kinds of accidents.

If you have been hurt in a Houston accident, you need an experienced Houston personal injury lawyer.  I’m here to help.  We represent clients throughout the state of Texas.  To contact me, click here!  I’ll be glad to visit with you personally about your case.

Third traffic fatality on U.S. Highway 290

Published by admin under Accident News

The third traffic fatality on U.S. Highway 290 East within the space of 3½ months was recorded at 4:25 p.m. Friday about four miles east of Fredericksburg.

Dying in the three-vehicle accident that also marked Gillespie County’s fourth highway death of 2008 was Pamela Louise Cujko, 43, of Fredericksburg.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Jay Rios who investigated, Ms. Cujko died when her 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, which had been headed toward Fredericksburg in the outside lane of 290, crossed both westbound lanes and struck head-on an eastbound 2007 GMC Sierra pickup driven in the inside lane by Amber Liscum, 32, of Bandera.

A third vehicle — a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven also in the east-bound inside lane behind Mrs. Liscum’s truck by her husband, Jeremy Liscum, 32, of Bandera — swerved to the right to avoid hitting the Sierra, the trooper reported.

However, Rios said Mr. Liscum could not get completely out the way of the truck which ended up side-swiping the driver’s side of his car.

Ms. Cujko’s vehicle ended up near the center of the highway, while the pickup truck came to rest on the passenger side just off the east-bound pavement.

Mrs. Liscum and her ten-year-old daughter, Lindy Liscum, who was a right-front passenger in the truck, were transported by an Air-Life medical helicopter to University Hospital in San Antonio.

Neither Mr. Liscum nor the couple’s four-year-old daughter, Reygen Liscum, who had been riding in a booster seat in the back seat of her father’s car, was reportedly injured in the accident.

Rios said all four members of the Liscum family were seat- belted in their two vehicles.

However, he said, Ms. Cujko, who was the lone occupant of her car, was not wearing a seat belt.

Ms. Cujko, formerly of Hondo, was pronounced dead at the scene of Friday’s accident by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Louis Rech.

A funeral service for Ms. Cujko was scheduled for 2 p.m. today at First Methodist Church in Hondo.

According to a University Hospital spokesman yesterday, both Mrs. Liscum and daughter Lindy Liscum were recovering from their injuries in the Alamo City medical center.

Besides DPS troopers and the Air-Life medical team members, other emergency personnel responding to Friday afternoon’s accident included Fredericksburg and Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department members, Fredericksburg EMS attendants and Gillespie County Sheriff’s Department officers.

Prior to Friday’s accident, which occurred 0.7 mile east of the eastern Goehmann Lane intersection, two other fatalities have been recorded this year east of Fredericksburg on U.S. Highway 290.

On Feb. 20, Marlayna Smith, 24, of Junction died in a head-on accident 0.3 miles west of Stonewall.

Nearly one month later, Deanna Brooks, 54, of Fredericksburg died March 17, one day after a multi-vehicle accident three miles east of Fredericksburg at the intersection of 290 and RM 1376.

Gillespie County’s first of four 2008 traffic fatalities occurred Feb. 5, 14 miles northwest of Kerrville on Interstate Highway 10 when Jerald Meyerdirk, 62, of College Station died in a pickup truck rollover.

Published by admin under Accident News

A 35-year-old McKinney man has been accused of intoxication manslaughter after a weekend car accident in Frisco, Texas.  The driver, Christopher Edgmon, was released on $10,000 bail.

Christopher Edgmon was driving a Mercedes when it collided with a Toyota 4Runner heading north on Custer Road, just north of Highway 121, police said. Passenger Anna Marie Guirguis, of McKinney, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the Medical Center of Plano around 1 a.m. Saturday.   Guirguis was a McGowen Elementary School Teacher and mother.

Christopher Edgmon, according to police reports, was on Custer Road near Highway 121 when the SUV hit the passenger side of his car.

“She just had any infectious personality - always smiling,” says McGowan principal Mike Forsyth. “For kids, especially kids in third grade, their teacher’s their hero. Anna was a hero to those kids.”

Corpus Christi Lawyer, TxDot Injury

Published by admin under Accident News

A TxDOT Texas Department of Transportation worker was injured in a recent traffic accident.  The worker has been upgraded from critical to serious condition according to officials at Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial.

Martin Garcia, 34, was injured in a traffic accident involving 105th District Judge J. Manuel Banales last Thursday near the ramp connecting South Padre Island Drive and Interstate 37. The accident happened about 2:45 p.m. Thursday as Bañales was entering the ramp connecting Padre Island Drive to southbound I-37. Police said his Cadillac Deville slid off the pavement and struck the transportation truck parked a few feet away, which Garcia had been crouching near.

Another worker was able to jump out of the way and avoid injury.

Texas Department of Transportation has set up a fund for donations: Checks should be made payable to “Martin Garcia Fund”:

Updated:

Corpus Christi Police investigators say Nueces County Judge Manuel Banales will receive a traffic citation for failure to maintain a direct course, as a result of an auto accident that critically injured a Texas Department of Transportation worker Martin Garcia.

The accident happened along a curve leading from NPID to I-37 last week. Police say Banales car computer indicated he was traveling at a speed of 71 miles an hour six seconds before he hit Garcia who was working on a roadway project.

Police say going 71 miles an hour on a highway that has a speed limit of 65 miles an hour is not excessive speed. A police investigator told Kiii News that a motorist traveling at that speed will not receive a speeding ticket. He said there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs involved in the accident though a final DPS report is not yet ready.

The ticket is scheduled to be served on Monday.

Garcia remains in the hospital in intensive care. But his condition has been upgraded to serious from critical.

Child Killed in Auto Accident in Brownsville

Published by admin under Accident News

Police in Brownsville Texas are trying to determine what caused a Honda Civic to crash into the back of an 18-wheeler truck on U.S. Highway 281.  The accident killed a toddler and critically injured his mother.

The car accident occurred just after 8:30 a.m. on Highway 281. The 18 wheeler truck was stopped, waiting to turn left into the construction site for a Brownsville Texas high school.

Ana Linda Lopez’s 2008 Honda Civic struck the 18-wheel truck from behind while traveling toward Brownsville on highway 281.

Lopez and her 3-year-old son, whose name was not released, were listed in critical condition at two local hospitals throughout the day.  However, the baby died later in the day, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed.

Roberto Garcia, the driver of the 18-wheeler, was uninjured but taken to the hospital as a precaution.

“Apparently, (the tractor-trailer) was going to make a turn into here; it still has its blinker on,” Brownsville police Sgt. David Dale said at the scene, motioning to the area where the truck planned to turn.

“Lopez either tried to go around or somehow got distracted” and “plowed into the rear of it.”

The boy was taken by ambulance to Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville, while Lopez was transported to Valley Regional Medical Center. Garcia was also taken the VBMC-Brownsville.

Residents have expressed concerns that more accidents could occur once the new high school opens in 2010.

“Before it’s built, I’m sure the people who are going to be in control of this are going to put crosswalks, lights or a walkway” over the road, Dale said.

Although few accidents occur on U.S. 281, “when they do happen, it’s not a fender bender,” Dale said.

Longterm Whiplash Symptoms

Published by admin under Personal Injury

The European Spine Journal reports MRI finding longterm symptoms from Whiplash injuries.

Neck pain is the cardinal symptom following whiplash injuries. The trauma mechanism could theoretically lead to both soft tissue and bone injury that could be visualised by means of MRI. From previous quite small trials it seems that MRI does not demonstrate significant tissue damage. Large prospectively followed cohorts are needed to identify possible clinically relevant MRI findings. The objective of this trial was to evaluate (1) the predictive value of cervical MRI after whiplash injuries and (2) the value of repeating MRI examinations after 3 months including sequences with flexion and extension of the cervical spine.

Auto Accident Involves Two in Sunset

Published by admin under Accident News

An accident at the intersection of Winstead and Sunset avenues closed multiple lanes and slowed traffic for about 45 minutes Saturday evening.

A red Chevrolet Blazer driving west on Sunset Avenue ran a red light just after 5 p.m. and hit a taxi driving north on Winstead Avenue, said Rocky Mount police Sgt. Thomas Bashore. After the two cars collided in the intersection, the Blazer flipped over and landed in front of the RBC Centura on Sunset.

A two car accident at the intersection of Sunset Aveune and Winstead Aveune happened around 5:10 p.m. Saturday when a red Blazer ran a stop light and collided with a taxi cab. The Blazer was in the process of being turned back over in this photo.

“It sounded like dynamite went off,” witness Tommy Landen said, standing in the Rite Aid parking lot.

The female driver of the Blazer and a male passenger were taken to Nash General Hospital with scratches and bruises, Bashore said. More than likely, the driver will be charged with running a red light and excessive speed, Bashore said.

The United Cab Co. driver, Robert Lancaster, said he escaped from the accident injury free.
