Auto Accident Involves Two in Sunset
An accident at the intersection of Winstead and Sunset avenues closed multiple lanes and slowed traffic for about 45 minutes Saturday evening.
A red Chevrolet Blazer driving west on Sunset Avenue ran a red light just after 5 p.m. and hit a taxi driving north on Winstead Avenue, said Rocky Mount police Sgt. Thomas Bashore. After the two cars collided in the intersection, the Blazer flipped over and landed in front of the RBC Centura on Sunset.
A two car accident at the intersection of Sunset Aveune and Winstead Aveune happened around 5:10 p.m. Saturday when a red Blazer ran a stop light and collided with a taxi cab. The Blazer was in the process of being turned back over in this photo.
“It sounded like dynamite went off,” witness Tommy Landen said, standing in the Rite Aid parking lot.
The female driver of the Blazer and a male passenger were taken to Nash General Hospital with scratches and bruises, Bashore said. More than likely, the driver will be charged with running a red light and excessive speed, Bashore said.
The United Cab Co. driver, Robert Lancaster, said he escaped from the accident injury free.
